Student Game Producer

Cosmoss

Cosmoss is a 3D/2D/Unreal Project and tell the story of a microscopic world, where the fate of a dying village is in the hands of Lox. Lox must bring Bud, the last seed of the mother tree, to the “right” place so that the people can survive.

Cosmoss was developed as part of the Anifilm/Aniplay IP Development at the Animationsinstitut. During the production the 14-people team developed an animated short film and a multiplayer PC game. We got to showcase the project and share some insights at the FMX 2023.

For me a challenge in this project was to combine the more waterfall style production of an animated short film with the agile production of a video game. Since the team was tasked to create a world together and then develop to different formats that both took place in this world, it was very important from the beginning to think about how the two productions could be done together. One thing we did was to develop both formats in Unreal, this allowed us to have one asset pipeline for both the film and the game without having to optimise much for the game’s performance. We, as producers worked very closely together to prioritise tasks and made sure that both formats got the needed attention.

With a big team and each member of the team having it’s own set of skills and goals what to achieve during this production, we also worked on the team spirit, organising team events, made sure to have off-time where people could connect outside of work and created a cosy working environment with enough snacks.
